Data transfer using Surfix® gauges

Infrarot-Adapter RS-232
Infrarot-Adapter USB

The stored measuring data in the devices Pocket-Surfix®, Surfix®, and Surfix® Pro can be transferred with the optional infrared adapter in two different ways:

  1. With the free programm "Hyperterminal" which is a general component of Windows®.
  2. In the simple way with the inexpensive FixSoft transfer program. The data will be transferred to Excel as well as the statistic values, a trend reprentation and a histogram. Afterwards you can add customized data, like the date, data of the load and the company etc. You can transfer only one series of measurments in each case.

The extensive data communication and management program ProSoft for comfotable processing is available for the above mentioned devices . The program transfers as many as desired series of measurements including all statistics parameters to the PC for processing and graphic presentation.

Infrared adapter for different computer interfaces

For data transmission from a Surfix® gauge to a computer an optional infrared adapter is required. This adapter uses one free I/O port of the computer.

The infrared adapter is available in two different versions:

  • infrared adapter with serial RS232 interface
  • infrared adapter with USB interface including Software Drivers on CD-ROM.

Additional information about the installation of the infrared adapter can be found in the following.

General information

It is of special importance with reference to the infrared data transfer that the transmitted light-induced pulses can be perfectly received and evaluated. The infrared adapter receiving the light-induced pulses must therefore be protected from any external interferences.

For this reason, please observe the following:

  1. Do not expose the window of the infrared adapter to direct solar radiation.
  2. Do not operate any filament and halogen lamps in the immediate vicinity of the adapter. The distance between adapter and lamp should be more than 1 meter.
  3. The infrared windows of the test instrument and of the adapter must be parallel and facing each other at a distance of around 30 cm to 50 cm.
